2006 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate

Professor Asit K. Biswas, a tireless water proponent who constantly challenges the 'status quo' and who helped foster a critical re-think among United Nations agencies, national governments, professional associations and others about how to improve delivery of water and sanitation services and management of our water resources received the 2006 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate on 24 August 2006.

The Stockholm Water Prize was presented by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria to Professor Asit K. Biswas during a Ceremony at the Stockholm City Hall on Thursday 24 August.

Aragon Environment Prize 2006

By awarding the Aragon Environment Prize, the Jury wishes to acknowledge “the exceptional and multifaceted contributions of Prof. Asit K. Biswas on global water issues, including research, education and awareness.” During 2005, Prof. Biswas promoted the policies and best practices for water resources management in Aragon in the Human Development Report, giving Aragon a global exposure.
Prof. Asit K. Biswas is President of the Third World Centre for Water Management, a think-tank based in Mexico. Prof. Biswas has been awarded the 2006 Stockholm Water Prize, the most prestigious award in the field of water.
Prof. Biswas is advisor for the International Centre on Water and Environment (CIAMA-La Alfranca).
